Abstract: The literature from communities of practice and professional development as well as the TPACK framework informed the proof of concept design for CANLEAD, an online tool designed to promote teachers’ formal, informal and independent learning about technology integration. Middle school science and math teachers in our focus groups completed use scenarios in CANLEAD to test its main design features. Their recommendations echo those from this literature but provide new insights for how web-based software can provide just in time, differentiated support, and promote collaboration with colleagues near and far. We conclude that an online organizational learning environment, such as CANLEAD, offers unique possibilities for holistically integrating an organization’s learning goals with the personal learning goals of its teachers.
